Today, Saturday, October 3, the CUPRA Rotterdam Premier Padel P2 (Rotterdam Ahoy, September 28 – October 4, €264,534 in prize money) plays its semi-finals: four matches on Centre Court from 12:00 Spanish time (the same in the Netherlands; 07:00 in Argentina), all live on Red Bull TV and Movistar Plus in Spain. And the tournament reaches this day with the men's draw turned upside down: seeds 2, 3 and 4 fell in Friday's quarter-finals. Only the No. 1s, Tapia-Coello, are still standing from the top half.
A quarter-final shake-up: seeds 2, 3 and 4 are out
Friday's quarter-final round was one of those days that rewrites a draw overnight:
- Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz (5) pulled off the upset of the tournament: they knocked out the No. 2 seeds, Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto, 6-4 6-4. Galán-Chingotto had not fallen before a semi-final since March, in Cancún — and for Stupa-Sanz these are their first Premier Padel semi-finals as a pair.
- Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto (6) also delivered a surprise: they came back from 3-5 down with the No. 3s serving in the first set to beat Leo Augsburger and Juan Lebrón 7-6(0) 6-3.
- Momo González and Lucas Campagnolo (8) came from behind: Di Nenno-Paquito Navarro (4) took the first set 6-2, but the eighth seeds took the match 2-6 7-6(1) 7-5.
- Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello (1) were the only favourites to deliver, and not without a scare: the defending champions dropped the first set to Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso (who had just knocked out Leal-Guerrero) before winning 4-6 6-3 6-3. With Galán-Chingotto gone, the No. 1s are extending their lead at the top of the rankings.
Men's semi-finals: a Rome rematch and a debut for Stupa-Sanz
This afternoon's draw features two matchups loaded with history:
- Tapia-Coello vs Momo González-Campagnolo (not before 13:30): Momo and Lucas are playing their second semi-final of the season, once again against their executioners from the Rome Major.
- Stupa-Sanz vs Yanguas-Nieto (to follow): on the other side of the draw, two pairs that know each other by heart, with Stupa and Jon Sanz chasing their first final together on the tour.
One gear note for this matchup: Yanguas plays with his LÕK Maxx Hype Gen 2 and Coki Nieto with the Kuikma PR Hybrid Carbon 12K, models still missing from our catalog — the two semi-finalists with catalog rackets here are Stupa and Jon Sanz.
Women's draw, true to form: the top four seeds lead the way
There were no upsets in the women's quarter-finals: the top four seeds will play the semi-finals.
- Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo (4) got past the stand-in pair Jensen-Escacena 6-3 7-5 and will face the No. 2s, Paula Josemaría and Bea González, who came from behind against Marta Ortega and Sofía Araújo 4-6 6-3 6-2. They last met in the Madrid P1 semi-finals, with Paula and Bea taking the win.
- Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay (1), defending champions at the Ahoy, dismissed Salazar-Osoro 6-0 6-4 and will meet Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero (3), who sent the breakout pair Riera-Bidahorria packing 6-3 6-2. The No. 1s and No. 3s replay the Madrid semi-final, which Delfi and Gemma took.
