Paris Major 2026: seeds' debut day — Coello-Tapia open Chatrier against Lebrón's slayers

Two days of round-of-64 matches were enough for the Alpine Paris Major to start showing what it is: a 2,000-FIP-point tournament with traps in every corner of the draw. Qualifying squeezed four pairs into each main draw, the French wild cards said goodbye at home —Boronad-Robert fell 7-5, 6-4 to Rubini-Piotto— and the draw has prepared a venomous debut for the No. 1s: Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello open today on Philippe Chatrier court (12:00, Spanish time) against Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso, the unseeded pair that knocked Lebrón-Augsburger out of the Madrid semifinal race at the Movistar Arena and reached the last four, and that in Paris got past Lijó-Gil (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) to earn the date.

How we got here: two days of upsets

Monday 7. The first men's session had a bit of everything. Tolito Aguirre and Pablo García cruised past Miguel and Nuno Deus (6-2, 6-2), Fede Mouriño and Marc Quílez beat Santigosa-Pereyra (6-1, 7-5), and the two tightest matches went the distance: Patiniotis-Diego García survived a tie-break marathon (7-6(4), 6(6)-7, 7-6(5)) and Vilariño-Zamora got past Perino-Fernández Lancha (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).

Tuesday 8. The day of local farewells. Jesús Moya and Thomas Leygue, the home hope, saved an agonising first-set tie-break against Gala-Jensen (7-6(8), 6-4); fellow Frenchmen Clément Geens and Dylan Guichard hammered Pineda-Ruiz (6-0, 6-2); and the upset came from Arnau Ayats and Emilio Sánchez Chamero, who eliminated Maxi Sánchez and Lucho Capra in straight sets (7-6(3), 6-2). In the women's draw, Alix Collombon, the great figure of French padel, said goodbye alongside Ksenia Sharifova against Arellano-Lobo (3-6, 6(4)-7), and the first round spared no local dreams: Godallier-Valenzuela, Riera-Bidahorria and Clascà-Touly also went out.

Wednesday's order of play spreads the seeds' debut across four courts, and the show court keeps the best for itself:

• 12:00 — Tapia-Coello vs Libaak-Alfonso. The match of the day. The No. 1s defend in Paris the title they won in 2025 —their third in a row at the Major— and arrive after their first big stumble of the season in Madrid; on the other side, the unseeded pair that already took down Lebrón-Augsburger at the Movistar Arena. Libaak and his Siux Diablo Pro against the Coello-Tapia wall: few round-of-32 debuts have looked this good on paper.
• Not before 14:30 — Geens-Guichard vs Lebrón-Augsburger. The third seeds want quick redemption after their early Madrid exit: the Frenchmen come from a 6-0, 6-2 demolition and will be no walk in the park.
• Not before 20:00 — Ayats-Sánchez Chamero vs Galán-Chingotto. The Madrid champions debut at night against the slayers of Maxi Sánchez-Lucho Capra. Stupaczuk-Sanz (vs Facu López-Dal Bianco, court 7, not before 16:00) and Navarro-Di Nenno (vs Collado-Hernández, not before 17:00) round out the Spanish favourites' afternoon.

Women's draw: the favourites start on Thursday in the round of 16

While the men play their round of 32, the top women's favourites rest: Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, Madrid champions and defending Paris titlists, start this Thursday 10 directly in the round of 16 waiting for an opponent. Paula Josemaría and Bea González also arrive with a bitter taste after the final lost at the Movistar Arena. On the outside courts, however, this Wednesday does guarantee Spanish duels: Lucía Sainz and Sofía Saiz against Aida Martínez-Natividad López (court 5, to follow) and Marta Ortega and Sofia Araújo against Ari Cañellas-Patricia Martínez (court 7, 11:00).
