Paris Major 2026: padel lands at Roland-Garros with the Race wide open

The calendar gives no respite: while the Movistar Arena decides this Sunday the champions of the Comunidad de Madrid P1 (Galán-Chingotto against Nieto-Yanguas in the men's draw; Triay-Brea against Josemaría-González in the women's), the Alpine Paris Major, one of the biggest tournaments of the season, has already started its qualifying rounds in Paris. From September 6 to 13, the Stade Roland-Garros becomes the world capital of padel for a few days: €1,044,849 in prize money — more than double the €479,068 of the Madrid P1 — and 2,000 FIP points for the champions. And it arrives at the worst possible moment for the No.1s, knocked out this very week in Madrid.

Roland-Garros: tennis' temple surrenders to padel

It is the first time a Premier Padel Major is held at the French Tennis Federation's grounds, and the tournament is organized by the FFT itself. Padel takes over six outdoor competition courts — with MejorSet official courts, Mondo turf and Wilson Premier Padel balls — in the Paris complex.

The week's schedule:

• Qualifying: Sunday 6 (from 11:00) and Monday 7. 16 men's and 16 women's pairs fight for four spots in each draw.
• Main draw: starts Monday 7 with the men's first round; the women's side gets going on Tuesday 8.
• The 16 seeds make their debut on Wednesday 9 in the round of 32; the round of 16 is on Thursday 10, the quarter-finals on Friday 11, the semifinals on Saturday 12 and the final on Sunday 13 at 2:00 pm.

The Race is wide open: farewell to Coello-Tapia's invincibility

The story of the week belongs to Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas: in the Madrid P1 quarter-finals they knocked out Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia 7-5, 7-6(5). It's the first time since May 2025 that the world No.1s miss out on a semifinal — and it cost them dearly: the P1's 1,000 points slipped away right before the tournament that hands out the most points of the season's second half.

Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto also went to the wire in Madrid: they edged out Martín Di Nenno and Paquito Navarro — the reigning Madrid champions — 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5) and today play the Madrid title against the upset-makers who beat the No.1s.

The Race is therefore blown wide open: Coello-Tapia's lead stood at 1,290 points on August 24 (10,440 vs 9,150), and now 2,000 are on offer in Paris. What's more, the No.1s defend at Roland-Garros the title they won in the 2025 edition: a chance for revenge twice over.

The draw: favourites and unseeded threats

The top eight men's seeds are Coello-Tapia, Galán-Chingotto, Lebrón-Augsburger, Stupa-Sanz, Nieto-Yanguas, Navarro-Di Nenno, Guerrero-Leal and González-Campagnolo. The third seeds, Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger, look for redemption in Paris after their early Madrid loss to Gonza Alfonso and Tino Libaak, who are unseeded yet already showed in the Movistar Arena they can beat anyone: they made the semifinals. The draw is completed by three wild cards for French padel (including Yoan Boronad and Jeremy Robert) and four pairs out of qualifying.

Women's draw: Triay-Brea defend their crown

On the women's side, Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea defend in Paris the title they won in the 2025 edition and arrive after reaching today's Madrid final (6-2, 6-4 against Sánchez-Ustero in the semifinals). Their biggest rivals, Paula Josemaría and Bea González, got there the hard way in the Movistar Arena: they came from behind against Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo (4-6, 6-2, 7-5), the London champions who had won their first two tournaments together. The youngest pair ever to win a Premier Padel title wants revenge at Roland-Garros.

Paris welcomes the biggest padel in the world this week on the most tennis-like stage that exists. The Race is open, the favourites arrive wounded and Roland-Garros has everything it takes to deliver an unforgettable Major.
