The first Premier Padel tournament ever held in South Africa has its champions: Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea in the women's draw and Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto in the men's. The world No.1 women's pair and the No.2 men's duo took the title in Pretoria after two nail-biting finals, both decided in a third-set tie-break.
Two finals that almost saw upsets
The two pairs playing their first-ever Premier Padel final came agonisingly close to the upset. Martina Calvo and Claudia Fernández, in their first tournament together, recovered from a set down before falling 6-2, 6(5)-7, 7-6(4) to Triay and Brea. In the men's draw, Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero — regular CUPRA FIP Tour title winners — went down 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(7) against Galán-Chingotto.
Season numbers
With this win, Triay and Brea add their fifth title of the season and extend their lead at the top of the FIP rankings. For Galán and Chingotto it's the sixth trophy of the year, after a run of five consecutive tournaments won by world No.1s Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia.
The tour moves on: London debuts
From Pretoria the tour heads straight to London, where a Premier Padel tournament will be held for the first time in the British capital. The London P1 main draw gets underway at the iconic Olympia London (Kensington) with the world's best players in action.
